Hannah Jack of Turner Classic Movies leads a live online seminar about Footlight Parade (1933)
This pre-code musical stars James Cagney as Chester Kent, who, after a deflating career as a Broadway musical director, tries to turn things around by creating live musical “prologues” before feature films in movie theaters. Kent feels pressure to succeed while his ideas are seemingly being stolen right from under his nose and given to a competitor. Unbeknownst to him, his secretary, Nan (Joan Blondell), is looking out for him while simultaneously falling in love with him. Warning: This movie contains racist content.
