Gettysburg College's Office of Diversity & Inclusion presents a free public screening of Shirley (2024). The screening is offered as part of a series of events celebrating the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Shirley Anita Chisholm was the first black woman to be elected to the United States Congress in 1968, and the first woman to campaign for the Democratic nomination for President in 1972. The film depicts Chisholm's fierceness against the misogynoir that aimed to suppress her efforts and honors the grit of her determination to be a trailblazer and symbol of political hope.
