Kelley Conway, University of Wisconsin-Madison leads a live online seminar about Vagabond (1985), part of the Deep Focus French New Wave series.
Though it was made twenty years after the peak of the French New Wave, Varda's Vagabond exemplifies many aspects of the movement, with its experimental narration, social commentary, and blurring of the lines between movie and documentary. We begin at the end, with tragedy, as we see our protagonist Mona dead in a ditch. Over the film, we follow her on her Odyssey to see how she got here.
Film available on Criterion Channel.
Registration is for the discussion only and does not include the film.
