Gettysburg Community Theatre will lift your spirits with their Penguin Project production of The Sound of Music by Rodgers & Hammerstein. This youth edition one-act version of the classic musical features students with special needs and their peer mentors.
Featuring a trove of treasured songs, including "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," "My Favorite Things," "Do-Re-Mi," "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" and the title number, The Sound of Music is an inspirational story based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp. It follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.
This production is appropriate for all ages. For more information on The Penguin Project, visit www.gettysburgcommunitytheatre.org
This program is made possible in part by The Forward Fund, Sharon Magraw, The Marie Keese Lelash Foundation, Mary and Jed Smith, The Robert C. Hoffman Charitable Endowment Trust, and The Eagle Riders of Gettysburg.
