The Connecticut based artist, Sarena Johnson sees her body of work as an act of resistance in a patriarchal world.

Her paintings depict a femininity as something familiar, intimate, full of laughter, joy, and harmony. Her palette, at times evocative of an old black and white snapshot, at other times saturated with color, captures something nostalgic and comforting, or vibrant and alive. She has created a mythology of sorts, introducing classical as well as natural figures and symbols alongside the female form. She has dedicated these works to the radical women in her life.

Artist Bio: Sarena Johnson, is an Oil Painter with a concentration in figure painting. She graduated from The University of the Arts with her BFA in 2018. She received her MFA from The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 2020. Sarena has shown in galleries across the country and internationally including Washington state, Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Portugal. She taught as a professor of drawing and painting in the Fine Arts program at The University of the Arts. She was a Resident Artist at Gigi Peter's Gallery in Portugal. As an artist seeks to empower the feminine, exercise authenticity and absolute freedom.
