Dr. Anthony Fauci offers hope for the performing arts in late 2021

The United States' top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, spoke to the annual conference of the Association of Performing Arts Professionals (APAP) on January 9 and offered hope that live entertainment may be able to return in Fall 2021.

The APAP conference is typically held in New York in early January and is one of the top means by which presenting theaters - including the Majestic Theater - learn about new live performing groups and tours available for booking. This year's conference, held entirely online, took place during a time of monumental uncertainty for the performing arts industry.

According to reports from the New York Times and Rolling Stone, Fauci suggested if the ongoing COVID-19 vaccine rollout goes well, and 70-85% percent of the population gets vaccinated in the coming months, performers could feel comfortable returning to the stage sometime this fall. He suggested audiences, too, might feel comfortable attending a live show by fall, with mask wearing and other simple public health considerations in effect. APAP has released highlights of Fauci's talk on video, available below.
