This exhibit features Dwight D. Eisenhower's own painting, Normandy Scene.
Experience a variety of art and images displaying Dwight D. Eisenhower as a member of our community and as an artist.
Through pieces that showcase the farm he shared with his wife, Mamie, his office at Gettysburg College, his time in the Majestic Theater, and beyond, this exhibit displays how embedded Ike was in our community. Between chance meetings at the local grocery store and addressing world leaders in what is now our cinemas, Ike's humanity shines through our collection of historical documents, photographs, and paintings, including his very own work, Normandy Scene, which he painted while in command of NATO in 1951.
"Gettysburg's Ike" will coincide with two performances of Eisenhower: This Piece of Ground, starring Tony Award-winner John Rubenstein, on October 3 at 7:30 PM and October 4 at 3:00 PM in the Majestic Theater's Main Hall. The new American play by Richard Hellesen and directed by Peter Ellenstein is a candid and fascinating fictional eavesdropping on Eisenhower at his Gettysburg farm.
This exhibit is made possible thanks in part to The Dwight D. Eisenhower Society, the U.S. National Parks Service, Ruthmary McIlhenny, and Gettysburg College's Special Collections and College Archive.
The exhibit is open daily through October 22. Admission is Free.
