Franz Lehár’s beloved operetta The Merry Widow premiered in 1905 and remains as timely as ever. Set in glamorous 1920s Paris, the story follows the wealthy widow Hanna Glawari and the roguish Count Danilo Danilovitch - former lovers reunited amid a scheme to save Hanna’s homeland of Pontevedro from financial ruin. As sparks fly and secrets unfold, wit and stubbornness collide. Filled with lively dance and memorable melodies, this delightful production is sure to leave your heart light and your toes tapping.

Opera Workshop is a one-credit course offered each spring that culminates in fully staged, costumed performances at the historic Majestic Theater. Repertoire is carefully chosen based on the student cast and spans a variety of operatic and operetta styles and languages.

Designed for students interested in exploring the world of opera, the course combines musical preparation with training in character development, acting, movement, diction, and text translation. Participants also gain real-world skills, such as writing a performance résumé and artist bio. Collaborative rehearsals provide valuable experience working on a dynamic creative team.
