Enjoy an unforgettable evening of music as the Gettysburg College Jazz Ensemble and the Sunderman Conservatory Wind Symphony kick off the 2024-2025 season with "DOWNBEAT." This exciting concert marks the first performance of the year, featuring a dynamic blend of jazz and jazz-inspired symphonic wind music. Experience the energy and artistry of these talented ensembles as they set the tone for a season of remarkable performances.

Under the direction of Amanda Heim, the Gettysburg College Jazz Ensemble will perform timeless classics by composers like Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, and Sammy Nestico. The Jazz Ensemble has performed at the Montreux, Vienné, Jazz a Juan, Istanbul, and North Sea Jazz Festivals as well as presenting concerts in Amsterdam, Paris, Bruges, Heidelberg, Athens, Istanbul, and Venice. 

The Sunderman Conservatory Wind Symphony, conducted by Russell McCutcheon, brings jazz influence to the symphonic scene with a program including Dancing Fire by Kevin Day, Melodious Thunk by David Biedenbender, Forward/Still by Omar Thomas, and Havana Nights by Randall Standridge. The Wind Symphony has performed in the Gewandhaus Mendelssohn Hall in Leipzig, Smetana Hall in Prague, the Great Guild Concert Hall in Latvia, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
