Andrew J. Douglas, Ph.D., leads a live discussion on The Birds (1963).
Based on a story by Hitchcock’s favorite author, Daphne du Maurier (Rebecca), and set and filmed in an actual town in his beloved Bay Area, this flight of fear-inducing fancy is arguably the most ambitious production—from a technical perspective, at least—in the director’s entire filmography. While the special effects used to create the attack scenes are certainly essential to the film, our focus will be on the editing, which is no less crucial to The Birds (1963).
Where to watch this film: Stream on Showtime / Rent on Amazon, Apple
