Art Gallery
OPENING FEBRUARY 5
Rowan LeCompte
Rowan LeCompte was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. In 1939, his aunt took him to visit the Washington National Cathedral, where he had his first glimpses of stained glass. From then on, Rowan strove to master the art of stained glass. In 1942, the Washington National Cathedral accepted one of Rowan’s designs and the window was installed later that year. Rowan served in World War II from 1943 to 1945, but, even then, he worked on stained glass designs. Once home, Rowan worked for the rest of his life to become a master of stained glass.
Pieces presented in the Majestic Art Gallery are from Rowan’s archives which include sketches, notes, correspondence, cartoons, design paintings and news clippings. Cynthia Salisbury, Rowan’s great niece and a local resident, currently possesses the archives, but she is searching for an institution that would be suitable to accept and share and care for the collection.
The exhibit is open daily beginning February 5, 2026 during Majestic Theater Box Office hours. Admission is free.
